Writing Classical Syriac (Assyrian) has long required special software or technical workarounds. Now, the Qadishapp app is taking a step toward simplifying this—through a new built-in text editor with an Assyrian keyboard, available directly within the app.
With the new editor, users can type classical Syriac without having to install separate fonts or keyboard layouts. The built-in keyboard provides easy access to Syriac letters, vowel marks, diacritical marks, punctuation, numbers, and special characters—all in one place.
The editor also gives users control over the appearance of the text. You can choose from 21 different fonts in the Serto and Estrangelo styles, and adjust the text alignment to right-aligned or centered. Everything you type is saved automatically, allowing you to return to your work at any time.
For those who want additional features, there’s Qadishapp Premium, which unlocks more possibilities. With it, you can adjust the text size and change the text color to black, red, blue, green, purple, orange, or pink. Premium users can also create and save up to 20 separate documents.
Another feature of the Premium version is the ability to export the entire text as a high-resolution PNG image, with either a transparent or white background. This makes it easier to use Syriac texts in announcements, social media, and other graphic materials, for example.
For a language that has often lacked simple digital tools, initiatives like this are significant.
